Ken Carter

President & CEO

Ken Carter’s background as a recognized leader in the communications industry expands over 30 years. As the former Director of Public Relations for the American Heart Association, Ken spent four years serving the Dallas community before helping to form Focus Communications in 1980. At American Heart, he was the recipient of AHA's Target Impact Award for Outstanding Staff Achievement in the State of Texas in 1980.

Some of his various affiliations and accomplishments include:

· Past member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA)

· Board Member of the DFW Regional Sports Commission and the Ethnic Steering Committee of the American Advertising Research Bureau

· Past Member of PRSA's National Multi-Cultural Affairs Committee

· At the time of his affiliation, he was the first African-American member of the Board of Directors of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), North Texas Chapter, serving two terms, including one as Secretary

· Past member of its Professional Development Committees

· Served as the only African-American member of the Public Information Task Force of the City of Dallas and also on its Steering Committee

· Past member of the Texas Public Relations Association, International Association of Business Communicators and Dallas Advertising League

· Served as the first minority vendor ever to be chairman of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) Annual Conference

· Past member of the Dallas Citizens Council, and past Vice Chairman and member of the Executive Committees of the Board of Directors of the Dallas Urban League, and the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau

· Former member of the Board of Directors of the Dallas Regional Minority Purchasing Council, the Dallas/Fort Worth Minority Business Development Council, Black Nurses Association, the Thelma Boston Foundation and the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce

Ken’s numerous honors include:

· A 2002 recipient of the Macy’s Heart and Soul Award (a salute to breast cancer awareness and education and community initiatives)

· 2002 recipient of the Dallas/Forth Worth Association of Black Communicators Trailblazer Award

· Who's Who in the South and Southwest, of Dallas/Ft. Worth, Who's Who in America

· Who's Who Among African Americans; Who's Who Worldwide

· Who's Who in Advertising

· Man of the Year by the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Club, Dallas Metropolitan Chapter in 1986

· A recipient of the Quest for Success Award given for entrepreneurs by the Dallas Morning News and Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce in 1987

Ken’s expertise ranges from public and media relations, public affairs, crisis communications and issue management to diversity marketing to event promotions. He is also an expert in the area of non-profit corporate development and minority business development. He is a former co-owner of The Dallas Weekly, the leading African-American owned newspaper in North Texas with a circulation of over 50,000.

A native of Seattle, Washington, Ken holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
